Welcome to Child Inclusion

CHILD INCLUSION is the web-portal of a Project funded by the European Union, in the frame of a programme combat poverty and social exclusion in Europe (Community Action Programme 2002-2006, TEP II).

The Project extended title is “The condition of children placed in out-of-home care and construction of child oriented welfare policies”. It aims at promoting exchange of experiences and good practises between 6 European Countries on a range of matters:

-What is the condition of out-of-home children in those countries; -To what extent the process of De-institutionalisation is progressing on (or it is over); -How the legal system of protection of children meets the expectation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child; -What is the status of the family and the existing policies in support of children and families; -What is the system of services and opportunities for children.

Seven Partners belonging to six European Countries are involved: Greece, Hungary, Italy, Romania, Spain and Sweden, with Slovak Republic as associated country.

They adopt a working methodology based on groups (Permanent Seminars), in order to prepare three international meetings:

1) Budapest (Hungary), 9-11 February 2006: (Presentation of the Project) “Condition of children placed in out-of-home care and construction of child oriented welfare policies”.

2) Örebro (Sweden), 15-17 June 2006: “Rights and services for Children. Geography and strategies in the European Countries”.

3) Florence (Italy) 3-5 May 2007: “An Agenda for Children. Local, regional and national planning to combat social exclusion”.

CHILD-INCLUSION intends to contribute to the enhancement of the social inclusion policy that the EU is committed with, sustaining mutual learning between organisations and countries.

To the purpose, CHILD INCLUSION is a communication gateway inward and outward: it will make available documents, news and informations to Partners, and also to the general public as soon they are processed and ready for diffusion.

Nisida. Grandir en Prison (Nisida. Growing up in Prison)
Events The film by Lara Rastelli looks into the contradictory conditions of the children living in youth remand centres.

The first image in Nisida. Grandir en Prison is of a boy with his back to the screen, looking out from a clifftop window over the sea – a splendid stretch of coastline with unmistakeably Mediterranean colours – and talking of next summer, imagining when he’ll be able to sunbathe and go swimming with the others.
